Gaining a fit, healthy body is good. It’s good for you, good for the people around you. It even allows you to do more good because you’re fully able to do the physical and mental tasks required of your roles.
So now that you have reached that level of fitness, what’s next?
You may have already noticed that people follow you. They view you as a mentor and role model for a healthy lifestyle. Friends start asking your opinion on food and fitness. They want to know what you eat and what you do because secretly or even openly, they want what you have. They desire to reach a higher level of fitness for themselves and may not know exactly how to do it.
So you begin sharing health with others. Even if you don’t know it or it’s not your intention, when people meet you and see that you are a fit person they watch you closely. Seeing and copying your example is sometimes all someone needs to create the inspiration they need to get started themselves. And sometimes it changes someone’s life forever. Check out coaching here.
Here’s how this cycle works:
- You work hard to get and stay physically fit
- People who are not physically fit notice that you’re physically fit
- You become their role model, their (sometimes silent) mentor, leading by your own example
- They get inspired and start copying what you do
- They get physically fit
- Someone they meet who is not physically fit notice that they’re physically fit
- And so the cycle repeats
This circle is incredibly powerful and almost unbelievable it’s so simple.
Bottom line is: you’re already doing good work by simply living a healthy lifestyle and inspiring others around you…maybe unknowingly and unintentionally!
But what if you became intentional as a fitness role model? What if you had a serious action plan and mission to help other people, who need and ask for help, with their fitness goals?
Question:
Why should you share health and fitness with others?
Answer:
Because it could help someone who’s struggling not only with the inspiration part, but also the application part.
You could do that by dedicating 1 or 2 hours each week to specifically helping people reach their fitness goals. It would mean some incredibly rewarding paid work for you and it would allow your “coachees” to achieve their goals much quicker so that they can live a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life just like you. It’s simply paying it forward with a little more intention. Here are a few examples of what you could do:
- Lead a live weekly small group
- Lead a live weekly workout group
- Lead an online Facebook group
- Lead an online Skype group
Groups are one great example. You could also do one-to-one coaching instead of OR in addition to group coaching. Read more about how to become a coach here…
Why will people come to you? Because they already are!
People already ask you questions and look to you as a role model and it’s not because you are an expert, but because you care about them.
It’s proven that people thrive in an environment of acceptance, care, and mentorship. This is where you can contribute like no one else.
It’s apparent that you’re physically fit and leading that healthy lifestyle. Others desire to reach your level. Giving them access to you as a friend and a mentor would be incredibly valuable to them. And the people you were meant to work with will naturally be drawn to you. Why? Because they may not feel as accepted, loved or cared for in any other fitness outlet. Reread that last line, it’s key.
For example: an overweight person enters a fitness club. They instantly look down to the floor, imagining every head turning and hundreds of eyes looking right at them. They are keenly aware that some of the people in the club are fitter than they are, and they are embarrassed, uncomfortable, and feel like everyone notices them and judges them in their apparently unfit bodies. They think “How have I allowed myself get this far?”
I am not making up a story; I am sharing with you exactly how I felt when I was overweight and walked into the gym. This is not anyone’s “fault” and I am not attempting to bash gyms, but it was the way it was for me, and it was hard. I didn’t know there was any another way.
Coaching is the other way, and for some, it’s the best way.
Coaching is about one person(Coach) taking the time and careful attention to create a warm, welcoming, accepting environment, either online or in person, where the friendship, mentorship, and gentle direction of that Coach fosters inspiration, trust, and a shoulder to lean on. A coach is focused and set on serving the other person. Their “coachees” are able to do the daily steps needed to reach their fitness goals quicker and are 77% much more likely to keep their fitness lifestyle up because the friendship that was built with their Coach does not end when they reach their goals. The friendship keeps on going. How incredible!
My very first “coachee” was Theresa, a wife and teacher, living in Alaska. We coached by email once a week for about 3 months. In one email she wrote “Up here, it’s easy to feel alone. My husband works contract jobs that take him away for 3 months at a time. Before I met you, I felt like no one cared whether I reached my goals or not. I know you do. I am so happy I have you!” and through tears I decided that I would never get “too busy” to coach, even if I only spent 30 minutes a week. Helping people who need help is too important to me.
So there you have it J Our description of what it means to be a Beachbody Coach and mentor to others. This is not about us, but about them. And it’s too big for us to do alone. We need you. This is the invitation part that we hope you consider!
As a husband-wife Beachbody Coaching Couple, we coach hundreds of people each year and from first-hand experience, it’s so rewarding! What we thought would be a small group meeting Thursday nights for dinner turned into a nationwide movement. We can’t believe how amazing it is to do what we do.
At this point in our lives, we now coach coaches…train the trainers…equip and mentor the mentors. This is an important part of the cycle. We each have a coach and a mentor, and we love the accountability, friendship, and the ability to bounce ideas off of someone who has our best interests at heart and is also coaching people. So we all pay it forward and joyfully do that same thing to new coaches.
We offer a step-by-step mentoring program for people who are fit and ready to pay it forward and mentor others. Our Coach training program is offered free of charge to people who are physically fit (or who are willing to be) and who are ready to take the next step by moving from inspiring role model to mentor and coach. Coaches are paid for their time, and can coach anywhere in the United States from their home.
If, after reading this, you are excited about the possibility of being a mentor to other people by personally helping them reach the fitness goals, we would love to meet with you! We need active, caring people who are willing to commit between 1 and 20 hours a week to coaching people.
